Searching for Files and Messages
FirstClass allows you to search for a word within a message or document, or to search for all documents containing a specified subject, filename, attachment name, sender, recipient, or word. You can search for an item within your mailbox, within a conference, or within a set of conferences.
To begin a file search, open the object in which you want to search (for example, your mailbox). To search a conference, select the conference area you wish to search. To begin searching, type SEARCH. You will be prompted for the following:
Search for:
Enter the text or part of the text you are looking for. For example, type Net to search for words such as "network" or "EtherNet".
Search sub-folders & conferences?
You can have the search include subfolders or conferences by confirming this option.
Search content of files?
Normally the search looks just in the filename or message subject. If you select this option, the search will also include the text of the message or document.
Once the search begins, matching files are displayed in a list. If you select this option, the current folder or conference is shown at the bottom of the list, as the list grows. You may end the search at any time by pressing any key.
Once the search stops, you can open any of the matching files by selecting its number. To review the list, type SCAN. To exit from the search list, type EXIT.
