Composing a message
To compose a new message, type COMPOSE or NEW, and press RETURN (on a Macintosh keyboard), or ENTER (on an IBM-compatible keyboard).
You are prompted for a subject. Type the subject of your message.
You must now address the message. A To: prompt appears where you can type a list of recipients. Type the first recipient's name here and press RETURN or ENTER. FirstClass searches for the name in the FirstClass Directory and displays the full name.
If you are unsure of the recipient’s name, type the first few characters of the first name, or the last name, or both, and press RETURN or ENTER; FirstClass searches for the name in its Directory and fills in the full name for you.
If multiple names match the text you entered, (for example if you entered "smith" and there are multiple Smiths in your FirstClass system) FirstClass displays matches, one at a time. Select the correct name when it appears.
When you are finished entering recipients, press RETURN or ENTER in response to the To: prompt without typing anything else.
You are now prompted for the copy list. A Copies: prompt appears. Type the names of those individuals who should be copied on this message. The Copies: prompt works just like the To: prompt. If you don't want to send any copies, press RETURN or ENTER immediately.
You may now type the content of the message. FirstClass features a full screen editor designed specifically for low baud rates. Type your message without pressing RETURN or ENTER at the ends of lines - the editor wraps words when it gets to the end of a line. You can use the cursor arrow keys to move around in the text and you can insert new text anywhere or delete mistakes by pressing BACKSPACE or DELETE. When you are finished, press ESCAPE.
You may attach files to messages in order to send them to people or conferences. For more information, see the "Sending Files" help file.
You are prompted to send the message immediately. If you type YES, the message is sent. If you type NO, it is marked "Unsent" in your mailbox, indicated by an exclamation point (!). In either case, the original message is retained in your mailbox.
